News 12's Virginia Huie to Receive Award at Asian-American Cultural Festival of LI March 21st

Farmingdale, NY – March 9, 2009 – Three time Emmy award winning reporter Virginia Huie will be recognized for Outstanding News Reporting at the 3rd Annual Asian-American Cultural Festival of Long Island on Saturday, March 21st at Farmingdale State College. A familiar face on Cablevision’s News 12, Ms. Huie has spent more than 10 years in the industry and is currently a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor. Previously she was an emcee at the Asian-American Cultural Festivals of 2007 and 2008, but this year the Festival Award Committee wished to honor her as a role model for the Asian community and acknowledge her contributions to the residents of Long Island.

Mel Guadalupe, director of the Suffolk County Executive’s Office of Minority Affairs will emcee the Awards Ceremony which will be preceded by a stage performance featuring professional Asian artists. Three other accomplished Asian-Americans - Babubhai Kapadia, Lee Tee Shu and Honorable Phra Debkittisophon will also receive awards.

Following the ceremony, the Evening Program will continue with a sumptuous VIP reception at Knapp Hall consisting of an extravagant buffet with authentic cuisine from seven different cultures, wine tasting compliments of “Long Island’s biggest and best wine shop” Stew Leonard’s, live traditional instrumental music by a Filipino band, and a Chinese Auction.

Festival chairwoman Tai Wang, co-founder of W.A.C. Lighting in Garden City and 2007 Ellis Island Medal of Honor award winner states “We invite everyone – both Asian and non-Asian to come to our 3rd Annual Asian-American Cultural Festival of LI. Please join us as we share our cultural traditions at this lively and joyous event.”
