SBU’s Assistant Chief of Police to Receive “Friend of the Asian-American Community” Award at Asian-American Cultural Festival of LI

Stony Brook, NY – March 10, 2008 – Douglas Little, Assistant Chief of Police for Stony Brook University will be acknowledged as a “Friend of the Asian-American Community” at an awards ceremony held during the second Annual Asian-American Cultural Festival of Long Island on March 29th at the Wang Center at Stony Brook. He will be recognized for his diversity and affirmative action initiatives at the University.

A career police officer, Chief Little started at Stony Brook in 1997 and rose through the ranks to his current position. He has received numerous recognitions throughout his career including: Student Affairs-Student Life Award, State University Chief’s Professionalism Award, International Campus Law Enforcement Administrator Award for Community Policing, President’s Advisory Counsel on Diversity and Affirmative Action Leadership Award, President’s Award - 2005, and the S.U.N.Y. Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service-2005. He resides with his wife in Smithtown.

The Asian-American Cultural festival celebrates Long Island’s diversity by promoting cultural awareness and appreciation, uniting representatives of various Asian countries under one roof to showcase their heritage and traditions through exhibits, performances, costumes, workshops, films, interactive shows and ceremonies. Last year’s event drew nearly a thousand people from both the Asian and non-Asian communities. Admission to the afternoon program from 1-6pm is free. Children are encouraged to attend as there will be workshops, face painting and toy raffle prizes. The evening program from 7-9pm will feature the awards ceremony, a VIP Taste of Asia Cocktail Party with wine tasting by Martha Clara Vineyards, networking opportunities, live music and a Chinese auction.
